Most of our new members were not around "back in the day" when the Rebel Alliance was a steady voice for our Southern culture and people. Oh to be sure there were disagreements, some nasty, but at the heart of it all we all agreed on our love for our home, our land and our culture.
I propose that the Rebel Alliance has more work to do. Most of us blog about contemporary things, politics, our daily lives and our religion. This is as it should be because this is who we are. I would challenge you to consider for a moment who we are on a deeper level. We are the heirs to a wonderful birthright and a fascinating history. We stand on the shoulders of those that came before us, good and bad.
April is generally recognized as Confederate History Month. Every other minority in the US has their own month. We Southerners are too meek to even demand that our state legislatures proclaim a day or month of recognition in our own states. Our ancestors worked, fought, loved and died on the land we now live, love and work on. Don't we at least owe it to them to fight for their memory to be preserved?
Between now and April of 2007 I challenge each and every member of the Rebel Alliance to write at least one post a month on a Southern topic (if you do not do so already). I have not cleared this with the "old heads" (Arkie, Flannel and gosh where did Stoney go) but I will do so. I cannot imagine that they will disagree.
When you write a post shoot me an email and I will post a note here pointing folks to it.
Next April I propose we flood the blogsphere - as much as our small number can - with posts arguing for the establishment of April as an officially recognized Confederate memorial month in all Southern states. I say we make this the purpose of the Rebel Alliance from now until the day that our goal is realized. Each year we few dedicated Southern bloggers should rise up and fight with words and digits for the recognition our forebearers deserve.
